Actor Piolo Pascual is enjoying shooting with actress Angel Locsin in their upcoming film “Land Down Under.”

“Masaya, it’s a nice experience. It’s something na hindi pa namin nagagawa before. And for this movie, ang daming first,” Pascual said.

One of the firsts is the fact that they’re filming it in Australia since the movie has a lot of scenes with horses.

“Kung sa ‘Lobo’, we had to deal with dogs, dito naman, horses naman. So Angel and I are actually teasing each other, baka naman sa susunod, cat woman naman siya,” he said.

Pascual said that aside from the fun of working in a nice foreign land, they are enjoying working with the rest of the team, especially with their director Rory Quintos.

“Maganda yung experience, and I hope na matapos kami in time for the showing,” he said.

Angel’s accident

Pascual also confirmed that Locsin had an accident while doing an action scene with horses.

“Okay naman si Angel. It was just an accident. We were galloping when she was trying to catch up. But it was nothing serious naman. She was rushed to hospital. The doctor advised her to sleep. The next day, back to the set nagsho-shoot ulit siya, okay na siya,” he said.

Pascual said that they had to cut the scene because of the accident, but every one was back to work the next day.

“Wala naman, natural naman yon. It’s very physical. Hindi naman siya straight out na drama. Marami kaming scenes na nagho-horse back riding kami ni Angel. Maraming scenes na takbuhan. It’s very active and very different from all the movies I’ve done before,” he said.

Pascual is set to leave again for Australia in mid-October and will be staying there for two weeks to complete the film with Locsin.

He is also set to go to Europe for a concert dubbed “Heartthrobs in Europe” with Sam Milby last week of October.

After finishing “Land Down Under,” Pascual will be doing another television series for ABS-CBN.

Pascual is one of the cover stars on Star Magic 2009’s Catalogue by ABS-CBN Publishing.

“Actually, we’re galloping, then when it’s time for her to catch up, paghagis niya ng trail niya, tumama sa left eye niya yung lubid. Sabi ni Angel, ‘Sandali, sandali,’ nakapikit yung eyes niya. In short, we have to cut the scene.

“When I looked at her, namamaga na yung mata niya. We got worried so she was rushed in the hospital. They did go back to Cagayan de Oro for two hours and the doctor advised her to sleep. She spent a night in the hospital but the next day, she’s back on the set, nagsu-shoot na uli siya.

“It’s during the karambola scene and it’s one of the highlights bago siya naaksidente sa pelikula. He was rideing the horse, ‘tapos nagwala yung bull, nahulog siya sa kabayo.

“This movie kasi is a very physical movie. Puro outdoor so hindi talaga maiiwasan yung ganitong mga pangayayari, that’s all part of it. Pero masaya siya, it’s a fun movie, definitely something that will not bore you. This movie is not a straight-out drama.

“In Australia, I think mid-October. Dito, you’ll see the beauty of Bukidnon, ang ganda ng back draft. We will also do some shoot in Australia so you will see the difference of the outback here and the outback of Australia,” pagtatapos ni Piolo.

Matinee idol Piolo Pascual is still excited about his first-produced film, Manila, even though it is now facing a controversy.

Last week, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) reported the reactions of screenwriters Ricky Lee and Pete Lacaba about Manila. The movie is a two-part indie film that features Piolo, who is also a co-producer for this film, and is directed by Adolf Alix, Jr. and Raya Martin.

Piolo has been very open in saying that Manila is “inspired” by Ishmael Bernal’s 1980 movie Manila By Night and Lino Brocka’s 1979 masterpiece Jaguar (slang for guwardiya or security guard).

Manila By Night was written and directed by Bernal, with input from Lee and other screenwriters. Jaguar, on the other hand, is credited to both Lee and Lacaba.

Lee told PEP through a phone conversation that they were not informed about the movie Manila, which was written by Adolf and Ramon Sarmiento.

“Sana pinaalam man lang sa amin,” said Lee. “Ang dami-dami kong naririnig and and dami-daming nagtatanong sa akin.”

PEP was able to get Piolo’s reaction about this issue in a short chat with him before the unveiling of Star Magic’s 2009 Catalogue yesterday, September 28, at the lobby of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.

“There are some controversies, pero we’re happy because tapos na kami sa shoot,” Piolo told PEP when asked for an update about Manila.

Piolo is still positive that the issue about his indie movie would be settled soon. “Post-production na, I’m gonna see the rough cut tonight. I hope they’ll be able to iron things out with Mr. Ricky Lee and Mr. Pete Lacaba.”

When asked for his comment about it, Piolo was honest enough to say, “I’d rather not comment about it because I only found out about it yesterday. So, I haven’t really discussed it with my director. I’m meeting up with him tonight, si Direk Adolf Alix Jr. But I’m praying na maayos naman.”

In the end, he is still positive about Manila. “I’m also excited about the project, it’s the first time I produce. I hope it turns out well.”

At press time, PEP is still trying to contact Direk Adolf Alix Jr. to air his side about this issue. Direk Adolf just arrived yesterday from Thailand to represent his indie film, Tambolista (2007), at the Bangkok Film Festival.

In an unprecedented move, Pond’s was able to get the services of two of the hottest young actors today from rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7, Piolo Pascual and Dingdong Dantes, for their Pond’s Pinkish White Dream Date Promo. At the press conference held yesterday, September 18, at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Pond’s brand manager Jacque Yuengtian explained why they chose Piolo and Dingdong for this campaign ad.

She said, “Because they are the hottest stars in the country. And much more than that, they are the romance icons of the Philippines. Sila yung sexiest and most romantic guys out there.”

In the said campaign, two lucky Pond’s users will have the chance to have a dream date with either Piolo and Dingdong.

On the other hand, Piolo and Dingdong both expressed how privileged they are to be chosen for this campaign ad, although Dingdong joked that he is more excited with the date.

QTV-11’s Sam Oh had a sit-down interview with Piolo and Dingdong during yesterday’s launch. This ishow it went:

SAM: What is your idea of your dream date?
DINGDONG: Ako, somebody na…not naman the complete opposite of who I am, but somebody that will complement kung ano ako at kung ano ang meron ako. Somebody who is funny, easy to get along with, bubbly, and can be naughty at times.
PIOLO: Ako siguro, I want naman someone who can surprise me.

SAM: Maybe both of you would want someone who is really beautiful?
PIOLO: Not really literally…

SAM:  What is your idea of beautiful?
PIOLO: Someone who has sense and can really carry herself a good conversation.
DINGDONG: For me, someone who can carry herself even if she still all wrapped up and she can still be sexy even if she doesn’t show her skin. And of course, someone who is God-fearing.

SAM: If you will choose a date for each other, who will it be and why? And I’m definitely an option here.
PIOLO: Ikaw na lang! (laughs)

SAM: Why?
PIOLO: Because you’re interesting.
The moment you walked in the make-up room, you look refreshing, bagay na bagay kayo.

SAM: You know what guys, I don’t want drama, okay? I don’t want you guys fighting over girls! (laughs)

SAM: What made you the perfect choice for the Pond’s Pinkish White Dream Date Promo?
PIOLO: I don’t think I can answer that question, but of course, I’m honored.
DINGDONG: Thank you for saying that it’s a perfect choice, but for me, it will really be perfect until that day come that I will meet the person.

SAM: It’s like a joint venture, will there be a joint movie venture?
DINGDONG: Ako, I believe it’s a possibility and I’m looking forward.
PIOLO: It’s really an honor…

SAM: Why do you even think that you have a bigger heart than the others?
DINGDONG: You cannot claim that you have a bigger heart than the other one, but you know, you should know yourself even more. Kailangang alam mo ang sarili mo. Hindi ka kailangang mag-compare. As long as you’re confident about yourself, alam mo hanggang saan ka pupuwedeng magbigay, hindi lang ng puso kundi sarili rin.
PIOLO: Of course, you have to be humble. So, I guess that’s for you to let the people shine and not just pointing on yourself. For me, it’s the virtue of knowing what it takes to be humble.

SAM: I love it! You know what, you guys are obviously goodlooking guys. I never really talked to any of you personally to really know you, but there’s so many things behind your beautiful self.

SAM: Being chosen by Pond’s to endorse their product, many say that’s a statement that you two are the prime talents and kings of two network?
DINGDONG: I really do not give much importance to title or whatsoever, kasi it’s really all about… Siyempre, it all boils down to performance. Para sa akin, I’m very happy kung saan man ako madala ng career ko. Much more that Pond’s taking to the picture that made my career more meaningful and colorful.
PIOLO: I’m happy just you know, that I’m still in the business after quite sometime and ever since naman, I never competed with anyone. I’m competing with myself.

SAM: Moving away from your job right now, what would be your dream job after showbiz naman?
PIOLO: I wanna be a missionary. Especially to the remote areas na hindi na naaabot ng mga churches. And I just want to be able to share the gospel.
DINGDONG: I want to be a bodyguard and during my day-off, I want to be a farmer. I need balance, I think.

SAM: Anyone in particular that you would want to be a bodyguard?
DINGDONG: The President of the Philippines.

SAM: And I don’t know that you want to be a farmer. What do you want to be farming?
DINGDONG: Mangoes and kambing…

SAM: Oh, you’re a man of mystery, Dingdong!

SAM: If you were given the chance to chat to the world’s leader, who would that be?
PIOLO: I want to talk to the President of the Philippines because I’m a Filipino and I want to know how we can help.
DINGDONG: Mabigat ‘yan, pero siguro I would like to talk to Manny Pacquiao. He’s the leader in sports. I want to talk to him and give him good luck and I want to wish him well with his next fight. And that his winning could prove something else to the world that the Filipinos can stand up for their discipline and that they are the leader in boxing.

SAM: Of course, you don’t have to be dealing a political thing to be the world’s leader. You can also be an ambassador for something. So, did you injure your arm because you know…Manny Pacquiao?
DINGDONG: Well, sad to say, I don’t have his expertise.

After the question-and-answer portion, Sam threw a game for Piolo and Dingdong. In this game, they will have to choose between two choices.

SAM: Dingdong, are you a hopeless romantic or a levelheaded lover?
DINGDONG: Levelheaded lover.

SAM: Piolo, are you artistic or intellectual?
PIOLO: Artistic.

SAM: Do you prefer sexy or sweet?
DINGDONG: Sexy.

SAM: Piolo, do you prefer coffee or tea?
PIOLO: Coffee.

SAM: And the most important question, pinkish white or pale white?
PIOLO & DINGDONG: Pinkish White!
