Research In Motion (RIM) has been targeting the entry-level market for some time now but it wasn’t very evident until they released another qwerty smartphone, the Blackberry Curve 8520.

Like most other Blackberry phones, the Curve 8520 gets a stylish glossy finish and a sleeker look. It’s a bit smaller than the previous full qwerty Blackberry handsets but is still comfortable to use.

RIM ditched the usual trackball and replaced it with a touch sensitive optical track pad instead. The trackpad is really nice and comfortable to use but sometimes I find it cumbersome especially when scrolling over really long web pages or list of messages.

MANILA - Hunk actor Piolo Pascual confirmed he is doing a movie with pop princess Sarah Geronimo.

“It’s in the works. Nasa Star Cinema. Nasa ABS-CBN naman ‘yon. What’s important is that magkapamilya kami and yeah, may pinaplano kami,” Pascual revealed.

He said he is already looking forward to working with Geronimo, but declined to give a hint about the movie project.

“Si Sarah napaka-versatile. Kahit anong ibigay mo sa taong ‘yon napaka-talented, so I’m sure kayang-kaya niya ‘yon,” the hunk actor added.

Pascual, meanwhile, said he is also raring to do a project with Pinoy Big Brother host Toni Gonzaga.

“Tignan natin. Ako fan ako noon. Si Toni napakagaling noon and hopefully, hopefully soon, mabigyan kami ng chance to work with each other sa movie or a soap,” Pascual said.

Pascual said he will definitely have fun time working with Gonzaga, whom he worked with for a TV commercial for  popular brand of softdrink almost a decade ago.

“She was only 16 then. Talaga namang destined to be a star. Bukod sa magaling ang timing niya sa comedy, she is a good host, brilliant actress and she has what it takes,” he said.

Currently, Geronimo, Gonzaga and Pascual are mainstays of ABS-CBN’s ASAP ‘O9.

First Android Device Signals LG’s Two-tier Smartphone Strategy

Seoul, September 14, 2009 – LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, reinforced its aggressive strategy in smartphones by announcing the first Android mobile device which will give LG a broader and more dominant position in this expanding market.

The announcement of LG’s first Android-powered smartphones comes only a week after the world’s third largest mobile phone company announced that it would be introducing three new Windows Mobile smartphones in the next few weeks. These developments underscore LG’s commitment to offering greater consumer choice in the expanding smartphone category.

The new LG-GW620 features a 3-inch full touchscreen and slide out QWERTY keypad to meet the growing needs of consumers who rely on their mobile phones for more than just making calls. The LG-GW620 benefits from an operating system that was created from the ground up to take advantage of the many mobile applications and services developed by search leader Google.

In anticipation of strong demand for smartphones that support social networking functions right out-of-the-box, the LG-GW620 also lives up to LG’s consumer-friendly design philosophy by making the smartphone experience more accessible for typical users. At the same time, LG’s messaging phones have traditionally been very popular with young professionals who demand a full QWERTY keypad for a fast mobile computing experience. The LG-GW620 manages to meet the needs of both types of users simultaneously.

“The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead.”

In addition to the Android model, LG announced in early September that it will be introducing a minimum of 13 new smartphones over the next 16 months that utilize Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. The newest release, version 6.5, was announced just last week.

The LG-GW620 will be available in the fourth quarter of this year in select European markets.

MANILA - Actor Piolo Pascual said it will be “a dream come true” for him if he is called on to play former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. in an upcoming biopic about former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino.

Pascual, who is back in Manila after his successful Europe concert with other heartthrobs Sam Milby and John Lloyd Cruz, said that he will consider the project as “one of the biggest gifts” he will ever receive.

“If and when that happens (film role), you know, pangarap na natupad ‘yon at malaking regalo ‘yon para sa akin. It will be really, really interesting. But for now, I’m just focusing on what’s at hand and doon muna tayo,” Pascual said on entertainment show “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”

Reports that Pascual will be part of the Aquino biopic surfaced when actress Kris Aquino announced that her siblings’ original choices for the lead parts of the biopic were actress Judy Ann Santos and Pascual.

Now, asked if he will be willing to do the biopic film together with Santos - with whom he had a rift - Pascual said: “Who knows? I don’t know. Tignan natin kung mangyayari. Sa kanila naman nakasalalay ‘yon basta ako trabaho lang.”

Previous reports said that Santos and Pascual fought over something that Santos’s husband, Ryan Agoncillo, said against the actor.

At present, Pascual is back taping for ABS-CBN’s series “Lovers in Paris” with KC Concepcion, with whom he is romantically linked.

LONDON - The Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Catherine Street in London was flocked by some 2,000 Pinoys for the comeback performance of Heartthrobs Sam Milby and Piolo Pascual with first rate comedienne Pokwang.

But this time, the group returned with another heartthrob in the person of award-winning actor and certified box-office star John Lloyd Cruz. Pokwang was not the only rose in the group as Bea Alonzo also came as guest performer.

Heartthrobs’ fans from all over the UK and many parts of the world queued up early afternoon on Sunday for the opening of the doors at 4.30 p.m.

In October last year, the Heartthrobs concert likewise attracted a couple of thousands Pinoys from various parts of the world to see the much-awaited performance of their favorite ABS-CBN stars in a musical night coupled with comedic riot.

Roldan Acenas and his family took a four-hour train ride from Swansea to London to watch his idol perform.

“Idol ko si Pokwang. Ang saya ko kapag nakikita ko siya. Ang misis ko naman si Piolo ang gusto,” Acenas said.

But this was nothing compared to die-hard Pascual fanatics who came all the way from Canada, US, Australia and Japan and some parts of Europe and have been following him in his European tour.

Piolo’s global fans

Flor calls herself a ‘Piolo addict.’ Last year she also flew from Canada to watch the Heartthrobs concert in London. She has also watched the Heartthrobs concert in Barcelona and Dublin before the final show in London.

“Love ko kasi si Piolo kaya sinusuportahan ko siya sa mga ginagawa niya. Dahil sa kanya marami akong na gain na friends all over the world. Hindi niya kami tinuturing na fans kundi kaibigan,” she said.

Teary- eyed and despondent that the last leg of the European concert was coming to an end, she said: “Last night na  makikita ko siya. Matatagalan na naman bago ko siya makita uli. PJ, always remember that tita Flor is here for you.”

Last year she confided to ABS- CBN Europe News Bureau that she has started to consider Pascual the angel sent by God who saved her from committing suicide. Her personal problems which were aggravated by the loneliness of being away from family and working abroad drove her on the brink of depression.  But when she got hooked on one of Pascual’s teleseries aired on TFC she forgot her problems and bounced back from depression. She said her life went back to normal.

Normal, but not anymore mundane as she has been constantly travelling to support her idol and ‘angel’.

Mommy Vin from Maryland, USA is also part of the close-knit circle of Pascual’s growing number of global fans.

“Gusto ko si Piolo kasi mabait, Christian, honest at love niya kami,” she said. She lost her luggage en route to London but she said having spent time with Piolo in London made up for her lost luggage.

“PJ has been always good to us so we want to show our support and because we have formed such good friendships, we wanted to meet each other, spend time together and bond. For us, bonus na makita namin si PJ na magkakasama kami,” said Anne from Australia.

The Heartthrobs concert was also a reunion for some of them who were here last year like Mahal and Flor. To bond with Pascual, they always make sure that they also stay in the same hotel where Pascual is billeted when he is travelling.

A night to remember

Heartthrobs put together an ensemble of music that wowed the audience. While Pokwang delivered comic relief punctuated with her trade mark punch lines, Milby, Cruz and Pascual belted out powerful renditions of songs that titillated their female fans.

For many of the Heartthrobs fans, it was a night to remember.

The London concert was produced by Kapamilya Fiesta in cooperation with KCC Productions. The concert also raised funds for the victims of the recent typhoons in the Philippines.

The amount raised during the event will be donated to Sagip Kapamilya. Kapamilya Fiesta will oversee the projects for the typhoon victims.

Before London, Heartthrobs also performed in other European cities such as Tel Aviv, Barcelona and Dublin.
