MANILA, Philippines—“Piolo Pascual was at home when the text messages started circulating on Tuesday night,” said Star Magic PR head Thess Gubi of the rumor that the matinee idol is now dead.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Gubi said Piolo was busy with work in Subic.

Quite a number of fans turned to the Web for news on Piolo’s reported death. One site, Global Associated News, reported that Piolo “fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set.” The website cited the New Zealand Police as its source.

“We are unaware of how this nasty rumor started. Kung totoo ’yan, we would all be grieving by now,” Gubi told Inquirer Entertainment on Wednesday.

Celebrities are not alien to hoax text messages, and the recent victim is Piolo Pascual.

Last night, a text message circulated claiming that the singer-actor was “naaksidente” and that today, “namatay siya.”

Star Magic, the talent management company handling Piolo’s career, didn’t get to read the actual content. But the handlers were bombarded with “Is it true?” since this morning.

Thess Gubi, Star Magic’s publicist, related to PEP via a phone conversation with the site’s managing editor Karen Pagsolingan at around 7:30 p.m., “Ang sabi ay naaksidente. Meron pang kumalat na nahulog somewhere or from a building. Word of mouth na lang siya…’Tapos tinatanong nila sa amin kung totoo.”

So, is it true?

Gubi said, ” No.” The actor was dozing off in his home at the time of the supposed accident. And at present, he’s very much alive, and is in Subic for a shoot.

Like other hoax text messages about celebrities in the past, the new one which claimed that actor-singer Piolo Pascual had died in an accident was proven to be untrue.

Star Magic, Piolo’s management company, received a barrage of queries about Piolo’s safety as soon as the messages started doing the rounds.Through a statement read on “Showbiz News Ngayon” last April 28, Star Magic doused the malicious talk with cold water.

“We were not able to receive the exact text message regarding Piolo that he had an accident yesterday and died today. A lot of versions are coming out already and we are surprised with the news. He is alive and okay. He is on his way back to Manila from training in Subic for a soap opera,” the statement read.

SNN co-host Mariel Rodriguez warned the public to not immediately believe rumors circulating on text messages.

“Huwag tayong maniwala agad sa mga balita sa text at sa internet hangga’t hindi ito verified na impormasyon,” she said.

Biboy Arboleda, who is connected to ABS-CBN, posted this tweet on April 28 through his maderbibs twitter account:

“Piolo is healthy & well, I sent a txt msg to our producer mio siojo & asked for an mms/bbm vid of piolo na sasabihin nyang ok siya doon sa kanyang training in Subic. Mio sent me Piolo’s cute reply ” e wla akng mms ksi simple lang fone ko eh hehehe or maybe u can use my foto na kuha sa cam niyo sa training natin kanina & jst put a caption.”

KC Concepcion, Piolo’s closest girl friend, also denied the rumor. She posted this tweet message:

“Pj is training at a 24 hr survival camp, in preparation for his super ‘nother level soap. Rumor that he’s dead is not true.”

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN’s Star Magic on Wednesday disputed reports that hunk actor Piolo Pascual died while filming in New Zealand.

“Walang katotohanan ‘yon. Nagulat nga ang Star Magic kasi si Piolo nasa bahay niya sa Quezon City [at] natutulog ng kumalat ang text messages and reports,” Thess Gubi, Star Magic’s PR head, told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Gubi added that Pascual is in Subic right now to work.

Speculations about Pascual’s “death” spread after a website, Global Associated News, reported that Pascual “fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set.” The website cited reports from the New Zealand police as its source.

In November 2009, rumors that the actor was killed in a car accident also surfaced. His camp vehemently denied the speculations.
