BEA ALONZO, without a doubt, happens to be a competent actress. But she was a dismal failure when she essayed the role of former President Cory Aquino in last week’s episode of ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya, where she was upstaged by her leading man’s tour-de-force performance.

Obviously, Piolo Pascual did his homework in playing Ninoy, for he was able to do justice to the intricate demands of the role.

Scene after scene, he was most poignantly affecting, especially when he made those long and passionately memorable speeches almost exactly the way Ninoy did.

Bea, in fairness to her, did her very best, but her best was obviously not enough in the face of Piolo’s awe-inspiring bravura performance. Better luck next time, dear.

And remember, acting is not merely shedding tears on cue; it’s also about sensitivity and honesty in one’s portrayal of the role he or she is asked to delineate.

MANILA — The Kapamilya network will air the last of the two part series of Maalaala Mo Kaya’s (MMK) Ninoy and Cory Aquino love story tonight.

Actor-singer Piolo Pascual plays Ninoy’s character while Bea Alonso takes Cory’s role.

In a recent interview with Bea, she said she is thankful that there are good reviews on their portrayal on two of the most influential people in the country.

The bio-pic that Kris Aquino and family wishes that Piolo Pascual plays Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino is now a reality but it will only be on the small screen. Bea Alonzo will play the role of Corazon “Cory” Cojuanco in a two-hour special on “Maalaala Mo Kaya” presentation of Cory’s life story!

Shooting started yesterday January 6, and the MMK special will be aired on Jan. 23 and 30 in time for the celebration of Cory’s birthday.

Also supporting the cast are Gloria Diaz, Liezel Martinez and Jim Paredes, it is directed by Jeffrey Jeturian.

MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino was thrilled that one of her favorite actors, Piolo Pascual, is playing her father, slain former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., in ABS-CBN’s drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK).”

“From the very start, si Papa P (Pascual) ang paborito ng mga kapatid ko at paborito ko. And touched na touched kami na sinisikap n’ya na talagang aralin at kilalanin ang daddy,” Kris told ABS-CBN News.

Kris got even more excited after she found out that the MMK episode will be aired on January 25, 2010, the 77th birthday of her late mother, former president Corazon Aquino.

The MMK episode is the show’s tribute to the former president.

During the launching of his 6th album “Decades,” Pascual made the confirmation that he is portraying Ninoy in the tribute episode of the MMK.

Meanwhile, Kris disclosed that she, her husband, cager James Yap, and their two children will go to Bangkok after Christmas.

“Ang pahinga talaga [sa December 24], Noche Buena, sa family. Sa December 25, maglalaro si James sa PBA (Philippine Basketball Association). Ang balik na namin dito on December 31,” the actress-host said.

MANILA – It’s confirmed. Piolo Pascual is portraying slain former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., but not in a film.

ABS-CBN’s “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)” is set to feature Ninoy’s life story and it tapped Pascual to play the coveted role. Pascual made this confirmation during the launching of his 6th album called “Decades.”

The actor disclosed that the taping will start next week. And as part of his preparation, the “Lovers in Paris” star shared that he is now doing his own research about the man whose death triggered the 1986 bloodless revolution in EDSA.

He also disclosed that he will sit down with television host-actress Kris Aquino, Ninoy’s youngest daughter, for some advice.

“Nakaka-pressure din. Ang laki ng expectations. ‘Yong mga tao, hindi pa lumalabas, may judgment na hindi mo kamukha [or] you are not eloquent as he was. And then sasabihin sa’yo na wala kang karapatan. Ako, I’ll just come up with something na version ko,” he said.

Aside from accepting the MMK episode, Pascual is also willing to portray Ninoy in the big screen. The actor was quick to clarify, however, that no offers have been made so far.

Pascual is the personal choice of Aquino’s daughters - Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris - to play the role of their dad in the upcoming film about the life of the late senator’s wife, former president Corazon Aquino.

When asked about his other co-stars, meanwhile, Pascual declined to divulge any detail. “Hindi ko pa pwedeng sabihin. Ako pa lang ang confirmed.”-Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com as of 12/10/2009 1:16 PM
